John McDonnell Featured in Charity Benefit as Author & Guest Speaker
Noted writer, speech coach and award-winning lyricist Mike Greenly hosted a New York City book-signing event to raise funds for charity on Saturday night, March 30, 2019. The occasion was a book-signing of vol. 16 of The CHANGE Self-Empowerment book series, published by Jim Britt and Jim Lutes.
The event was a success, raising funds for a beloved charity of New York’s theater community, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Greenly has written chapters in four volumes of the series and during the course of his remarks – “Living Your Purpose” – he described having learned that his own purpose in life is the use of words. He was named the youngest VP in the history of Avon Products, back in the 1980’s when Avon was the world’s #1 beauty company. Now Greenly writes for and coach today’s execs and their teams that range from individual presentations to entire product launches.
Having written four chapter for the book series, Greenly – whom TIME magazine once quoted as “planet earth’s first interactive electronic journalist” — has come to know a number of other co-authors. During his remarks (titled “Living Your Purpose”) he highlighted some co-authors who had especially impressed him.
First and foremost, Greenly cited John McDonnell and expressed his admiration. “This guy is amazing,” he said, noting that McDonnell has the unique perspective of visiting and working in145 countries throughout the year – now recognized as a genuine branding and marketing expert in the global beverage alcohol business.
Greenly spoke with admiration of the way that McDonnell is “living his purpose” by sharing the knowledge he’s gained as a result of his remarkable interactions across the planet, from one culture to another. He cited McDonnell’s success as an author of perceptive articles for Forbes, as the developer of a book-in-progress to be called “No B.S. – Global Wisdom” since McDonnell is known as a direct and straightforward exec. And, Greenly added, it seems that McDonnell’s “purpose” is increasingly to share his insights as a guest speaker for corporate meetings and events, commencement speeches, etc.
“I’ll never know anyone else like John,” Greenly commented after signing books for everyone attending and after discussing the work of the BC/EFA charity. “I’ve seen him talk to live audiences and I’ve admired his TEDx talk at Suffolk University (available on YouTube.) “The guy’s authenticity comes through with every word he utters. No wonder people hire him as a speaker. I’m proud to be a co-author in the CHANGE series with him.”
Other co-authors Greenly acknowledged during his talk included:
* “Life Balance Seen through the Eyes of a Renaissance Woman”, Deborah Crowe
* Founder of Octane Auctions for exotic cars, John Nouri
* Healthcare executive and author, Bill Holmes
* Culinary services leader, Jeff Metz
* Crisis intervention specialist, Erin McDonnell
* Experiential marketing pro, Russell Reich
* Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting hero, Curtis Urbina
* Nashville song plugger, Chris Keaton
* Pro DJ and host on Sirius XM radio’s Studio 54 Channel, Tony Smith
