Exclusive Interview with Studeo
How would you classify your music?
Studeo’s music is broadly classified as “Adult Contemporary Pop/Rock”. But, we do stray into other genres such as country and jazz. Studeo’s music is generally very positive and has been described as “feel good” music….we don’t try to write songs in any particular genre, they evolve from the initial idea and develop from there. We often write about our life experiences and our travels in particular. Songs can germinate from a variety of day to day situations or can take us by surprise whilst enjoying the moment on vacation in places like Thailand and Mexico,
Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?
As a result of playing cover music for many years, we have a broad range of influences. The main ones being Linda Ronstadt, Fleetwood Mac, Carlos Santana, The Beatles and Eric Clapton.
What do you want fans to take away from your music?
Our aim is to provide a positive message from our music. We lead a very interesting life with lot’s of travel, personal experience and we also have been together for many years and enjoy a great relationship. So, you can see that these are the things that influence and drive our musical ideas.
How is the music scene in your locale?
The music scene in Melbourne Australia is not as strong as it used to be years ago. Whilst there are venues around for live music, there are not as many as in the past and the are more focussed on younger pub crowds. The area that is growing is boutique gigs such as wineries, distilleries and acoustic gigs….
What is the best concert you have been to?
There are two concerts that stand out to us, The Eagles a couple of years ago played in Melbourne and performed their great repertoire and included a bunch of acoustic songs which were great. Magnificent sound, lighting and wonderful playing were features of this concert. The other one was Santana. Featuring some magnificent playing and included a drum solo from Carlos Santana’s wife, Cindy Blackman, which was excellent…..
What do you like most about playing live?
We love getting the immediate feedback from the response of an audience to our songs. We have just returned from travelling in the US and China and we included a new song we have recently written called “Dancing on the beach”, which was really well received where ever we played. It was both very satisfying and more importantly gave us a great feedback that the song has a lot of potential. We also enjoy the energy of a live audience…..
Is there a song on your latest CD release here that stands out as your personal favorite, and why?
We have a song called “Counting Stars” which talks about how everybody needs to find their way in life and if you take the time to relax and count the stars, it gives you an opportunity build your dreams. So, it emphasises that setting goals and then planning and working towards them is the way to go, as we do…..
How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?
We have had a great 12 months, winning several awards globally, writing new songs and improving our recording quality. We are developing our overall skills and working better as a team to produce high quality recordings.
If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be?
I think that one of the people in the world that has had the most success, experiences and producing great music over his lifetime is Paul McCartney. It would be wonderful to meet him as he would have so many stories and has been a great role model in both his personal and musical life….
What’s next for you?
We are working on a new album and are over halfway there in writing the songs and recording them. So, 2020 will be similar to 2019 in that we will release another album, we will aim to replicate and build on our success in the Josie Music Awards, Global Music Awards, Clouzine Music Awards etc.. We have been invited to participate in some new awards in Holland later in 2020 and we are very much looking forward to that. And finally, we will be focussing on building our airplay and developing relationships in the industry…..
