It's taken a while to come out of the pandemic hole. Finding inspiration, motivation, and the strength to keep going was getting harder and harder.

After @mobbossjo took a trip to England 🇬🇧, she reconnected with her brother, his new family and herself.

We got a lot coming up! We have a few projects to show you that we made even while dormant, the new cities opening up and a straight up call out to renew our Mobster team and get back to promoting, covering and supporting artists and the cities they live in.

It makes Arun O’Connor’s debut album sound like a collection of low-key and demure singer/songwriter tracks brooding over his life’s injustices. It does, to a certain extent, reflect O’Connor’s penchant for introspection, perhaps a necessary attribute in any artist, but the title speaks much more to the intelligent and collected approach of the album."

"It’s been a big year for progressive content, and if you take a look at a record like Vuola’s Alouv, you’re going to understand why. Alouv isn’t a traditional prog effort; it’s not joined by theatrics or even the typical camp that has long been associated with the genre, but instead a compositional style that tethers one song to the next all too seamlessly to press the skip button. From “Under Above Orion Venus Loves” to simpler works like “Laugh Vivid Often Adore Unity,” these are not tracks composed by someone who lacks depth as a musician or performer by any means. The detail within the arrangements of ‘Vapaa Uljas Onnen Lapsi Aamun” and “Astra Lucia Omnia Ultra Verum” isn’t lost in this master mix, but instead given some room to be celebrated and defined in the grander scheme of things."

"Instrumental recordings can speak volumes without a player uttering a single phrase, and in the case of the new singles “Uncertain” and “New Beginnings” from composer/player Bonnie Milne, the melodies she presents are simply too grand to share the spotlight with any verses. With nothing more than her piano keys, Milne depicts elegance, reflection, and an acerbic attention to detail that has been missing from most of the pop music I’ve been listening to in 2022, all while rejecting the very notion of indulgence in her composing style. In these two songs, there just isn’t room for anything more than the tonal expressiveness of the instrument on its own.

To me, the piano’s emittances in “New Beginnings” feel like lyrics emerging from the silence to guide us toward a narrative too larger than life to be conveyed through linguistics alone."

"Anyone who thinks conceptual pop music has to be overindulgent to make a real statement to the audience likely doesn’t know any better, because those who listen to the new record Love Is Where You Are from Ananda Xenia Shakti and Love Power the Band this spring is going to know that the opposite is quite true. Blending melodic whims with a fervent sense of equality between lyrics and music, Love Is Where You Are features a rather complicated foundation, but what it lacks in simplicity on the compositional end it more than compensates us for in straight-up pop appeal.

The progressive influence over tracks like the title cut, “Devi,” and “I Am Love” is difficult for me to ignore, but the fact that it isn’t drawing a lot of unwanted camp into the aesthetical soul of this record is something to applaud. Shakti is using a lot of thoughtful combinations of poetic license and harmony-based expressiveness in this EP, but she doesn’t seem to avoid making the beat a feature when it counts (“Radha Grace”), which is not something I have been able to say for the majority of her peers fronting their own bands right now.

Psychedelic-tinged in spots but more focused and pop-structured than anything you’re going to get out of the American underground’s harder-edged indie players at the moment, what Ananda Xenia Shakti and Love Power the Band’s Love Is Where You Are offers the listener is a chance to experience new age duality in a relatively cut and dry setting, which isn’t exactly a coupling that you can come across very often in this medium, or any other for that matter."
