“Trust In Me” by Francesca Beghe
“Trust In Me” is the newly recorded live track from Francesca Beghe. Capturing the same thrill it did from the over-45-million-selling album and Grammy-winning, The Bodyguard soundtrack, Beghe revisits the song she co-wrote thirty-years-ago. Time has been good to this song, and so has Beghe’s commanding performance. Jazzy with traces of blues and adult contemporary tendrils intermixing, “Trust In Me” at its core is a prime example of bringing the energy of a live show to the home listener. Beghe, a New Yorker, draws big praise for her exceptional gem of a track. This one’s a winner and it’s the lead single from her Spring release, Francesca Beghe Live.

With such a massive selection of hits on The Bodyguard, it’s hard to not be outshined by Whitney Houston’s talents and even more so, but the iconic version that Joe Cocker and Sass Jordan have on the album. The original duet is charming and has that aura of magic. The story goes that Cocker recorded the song for his Unchain My Heart album, and actor Kevin Costner loved the song and Cocker so much, and being that Costner produced the film, chose Cocker and Jordan to record. Beghe certainly has a tall order and I think the fact that she is the song’s co-writer works more in her favor that you can imagine. “Trust In Me” is slick and showcases Beghe’s vocal prowess. She really owns the spotlight and hovers over the musical undercurrent like a woman giving a masterclass performance. I think it speaks volumes that she can really hold her own and uplift the listener to a whole other listening level.
This song pulls at the heartstrings. I can really see this as a true-love statement. Maybe because it’s a live recording, but I also really felt how it could be a dance song. I’m thinking of the way Bonnie Raitt moves a live crowd. Beghe has that tinge of Americana roots running through her talented New York-bluesy base. It really does lend itself well to imagery and the powerful connection between two people in love. I found myself chasing Beghe’s echoes, wandering around and marinating a while in her vocal ranges. I loved the tiny imperfections in her voice. You know, the ones that only happen in a live concert where you know the singer is singing live. She doesn’t sound studio perfect and it made “Trust In Me” so much more entertaining. Deliciously entertaining.
