The Happiness of Naomi Sky

What was it like the first time you realized music is what you wanted to do as your life’s work?

I felt really happy and peaceful. I know there’s a lot of unknowns in life, like how we get to where we want to go, but I believe when we’re on the right path, it feels good.

Who was the most encouraging with your talent?

My parents have always been extremely supportive, but my voice teacher, Cassandra Claude, stands out to me in the way she encouraged me to keep pursuing my dreams, even when I was unsure about them. There was a point in college where I felt extremely unsure about my choice to create a career in music, and she would point out that it’s normal to not feel extremely motivated every day. I ended up finding my way, and I strongly believe Cassandra’s encouragement is part of the reason I am where I am today.

Was there anyone that was the least?

I remember sharing my dreams in high school with a friend and one of my friend’s parents, and they recommended that I choose a “more stable career”. That comment stuck with me, but once I realized that there are challenges in any career field, any weight that comment held just evaporated. Everyone has opinions about everything, but we are the only ones who know what feels right. You can turn any negative comment or lack of support into fuel if you truly believe in yourself.

You make performing seem seamless. How much practice goes into what you do?

Thank you! I spend a lot of time practicing, and I would guess that I spend about 7 hours away practicing each week. I love practicing singing and playing the piano, but I’ve found that one of the most important parts of practice is creating a healthy mindset.

With all the successes you’ve experienced in your career, can you recall a time where you were tested in it?

College felt like the biggest test of all time. I was a little confused by the mindset I observed in some of my classmates when it came to music and performance, and I was inspired by the mindset of others. I also experienced a lot of fear and confusion to who I was as an artist and how I was going to achieve my goals. The more time I took to explore my doubt, the more confident and comfortable I started to feel with myself as an individual and an artist. Sometimes life tests or mistakes end up leading to the best realizations.

How did you make the decision to keep on going for your goals?

It came down to what I feel makes me the happiest. And when I realized music is a huge part of what makes me feel good, it was a no-brainer.

Who or what did you turn to when you needed a refocus?

I usually talk to my two mentors, Raina Murnak or Cassandra Claude, or one of my best friends. I am so grateful to have these amazing women in my life and to have friends who are there for me and can help me navigate challenges in life.

Tell our audience about your latest passion project!

I’m working on an album that explores vulnerability! It talks about self-love, romantic love, finding myself in love, being scared to love or open up, and anxiety… It’s the place where I started to explore what it feels like to be human and grow up, to fall in love and make mistakes, and how to keep going.

How did you come up with what you wanted to do next?

Vulnerability has been a big theme in my life the past few years, and I’ve learned how beautiful it is: how it can be a strength. When I started writing new music, I noticed it was the overarching theme in all of my new songs, so I decided to create an album out of it.

How are you making time for everything you do!

I prioritize my health because when I feel good and I’m in a healthy mindset, I make better choices and can create more of a balance in my life.

What are you focusing on right now going forward with your music?

I’m working on the next possible single!

How did that come about?

I knew I wanted to release at least 4 singles before sharing more from my album, but I decided on it in a conversation with my producer.

Give us where and how to find your music!
